Submitted 2011-03-28 13:27:07 Exercising is certainly an important part of getting fit and healthy but it isn't all there is. There is a lot more to truly being fit than running or lifting weights. If you want to be truly fit you need to make smart decisions in all aspects of your life. Leading a healthy lifestyle and being physically fit become more important as you get older. Think about it for a minute: how often do you think things like "I need to be healthier" during each day, week, month and year?
You will be pleased to learn that you can put a few things into action today to help raise your levels of health and fitness. Here are some tips that you can put into practice to help you get physically fit and lead a healthier lifestyle.
Choose healthy lifestyle options. Stop smoking. Cut back on your booze intake. Drinking and smoking are nasty habits by themselves but if you keep them up while you try to get healthier you won't get anywhere. Not only is smoking awful for your body but it makes it far more difficult for you to complete a workout routine. Not only will drinking keep your energy levels low, it is terrible for your liver.
Beyond the damage they do to your body, alcoholic drinks are jam packed with empty calories. It might even take you an entire workout to completely work off the calories you consumed with your drinks. Why set yourself back?
Get help from a personal trainer. At this point you will have at least flirted with the idea of joining your local gym (or have possibly already joined). Your gym probably has a personal trainer on hand to help you put together and perfect a workout routine that you can use to increase your fitness. Your personal trainer will teach you how to use the machines and gym equipment, tell you which fitness classes you should take and help you decide just how much time you should be spending working out each day. More importantly, a professional trainer can be your cheerleader. Starting a fitness routine can be intimidating. Working with a trainer who is both an expert in fitness and personally invested in your success can boost your confidence.
Join an athletic activity that you enjoy. Dance classes are a great way to work out, burn calories and have fun (all at the same time). Join a class for water aerobics. Take up rock climbing or hiking. These are all fantastic ways to exercise while also having fun. You have a more likely chance of getting in shape if you like the exercise routine you do. If you hate your fitness routine you will be more likely to make excuses to not do it. How productive can that be? Why not have fun while you get fit?
You need to realize that honest to goodness fitness is a whole body and whole mind idea.
True fitness involves more than a few workouts each week. Of course, those few exercise routines beat doing nothing at all! Beginning slowly and building up to a regular exercise routine is a good way to begin getting fit. If you add the exercise to good lifestyle choices and a balanced diet, you could achieve total fitness very quickly!
